Our semi-custom live edge tables are individually hand-crafted to reveal and celebrate the imperfections, age, history and nature of each unique piece of wood. Say goodbye to big box furniture and enjoy an art piece for your home or office.
Tell us the dream: Reach out via our contact form or by phone. Give us your ideas, inspiration photos and measurements. We can give an approximate cost and possibly some more ideas based on wood available.
Source & quote: We'll source the wood either from our own stock or from other local sources and provide a quote. (We have a pretty good stock for desk tops.) You'll provide 50% of the cost before we start or purchase wood.
Update & deliver: We'll keep you up to date and suggest adjustments to make best use of each unique piece of wood. And in a few weeks, we can deliver your item.
Every piece begins as a conversation with nature. We seek out fallen trees that offer distinctive character - those with compelling grain patterns, natural color variations, or artistic spalting created by time and elements. These trees become our canvas.
Our design philosophy embraces the unexpected. While we honor specific dimensions and functional requirements, we allow each piece of wood to guide its transformation. Some boards reveal dramatic knots, others showcase delicate spalted lines, and still others offer rare burls or figured grain. Rather than imposing rigid designs, we adapt our craftsmanship to enhance these natural features.
This approach means no two pieces are ever identical - each tells its own story through the language of wood. Our role is simply to reveal and preserve that story in functional form.
Montgomery, New York
This reclaimed wood executive desk has its live edges turned to the inside where we created a black resin river. The rare heavily spaulted maple was reinforced with clear epoxy and polished to a shine. This is a desk you don't mind having at home. It's also large enough to double as a small dining table.

The basics
A live edge desk is a type of desk that preserves the natural edge of the wood along the sides of the piece. Instead of trimming the edges to create a straight and uniform look, the live edge approach keeps the original contours of the tree. This means you can see the natural lines, knots, and sometimes bark on the edges of tables. It's a design style that celebrates the raw and organic beauty of the wood, providing a unique and rustic appearance to the furniture.
Cost
The combination of unique materials, skilled craftsmanship, customization, limited availability, specialized drying processes, artistic value, and environmental considerations all contribute to the higher cost of live edge desks.

Style
We would say that it definitely is. Any design that leans heavily on natural elements tends to stand the test of time. Also, interior design continues to trend toward incorporating natural elements and a rustic aesthetic. The unique and organic look, showcasing the natural edges of wood, adds a touch of warmth and character to both modern and more traditional spaces.
Our pieces in particular lean into the natural look of the wood. We don't use brightly colored epoxies or shiny finishes, which can look somewhat unnatural and are more likely to date themselves.
Cost
The price of a live edge table is based on species of wood, length and thickness of the piece or pieces, quality of wood, treatments such as kiln drying, and cost of resin for poured slabs.
The wood alone can vary in price. As an example, if you're sourcing wood from a nearby Hudson Valley mill, you can buy a 9 foot by 18 inch red oak slab for $250. But a black walnut slab of the same size would be $700.
Our wood slabs are individually sourced from fallen trees and most require extensive finishing due to their age and various battle scars. We think these pieces are the most unique and interesting, making them well worth the extra cost.
Care
We recommend sealing, and we seal our pieces to stabilize them and protect them from moisture, scratching and cracking.
