Where can you buy live edge furniture in or near New York City or around New York State?
Here are a few of your options. Of course, you can buy live edge furniture from further away than New York but it's nice to see the product before you make a purchase.
We are listing a mix of very high end options as well as some that are within reach of the general public.
Some woodworkers, woodshops and manufacturers we have personal acquaintance with. Others we've followed for years. We hope to get you closer to the perfect craftsperson - and the perfect live edge furniture - for your needs.
Walden, New York
We'll start with ourselves so you know who you are listening to. Hudson Valley Live Edge is a small operation in the Hudson Valley. We specialize in reclaimed wood tables, benches and desks.
Our trademark is using unique, sometimes beat up, pieces of fallen wood to create unconventional designs with a judicious use of epoxy and resin. We also offer more conventional pieces like tree stump side tables.
Brooklyn, New York
Sentient is the cool kid on the block, creating custom hardwood and live edge tables, desks, benches, chairs, millwork and more.
Sentient targets high-end projects in and around New York City and offers its own designs (especially chairs) or fully custom pieces.
Sentient has worked with a long list of architects, interior designers, hotels, retail stores and offices.
Their pieces are truly gorgeous and vary from luxurious to rustic.
Brooklyn, New York
Fallen Industry is another purveyor of gorgeous high-end live edge furniture. Like us, Fallen Industry only works with reclaimed wood and slabs from fallen trees.
Designer Paul Kruger is particulary good at blending wood with slicker materials like metal or lucite.
We love Kruger's origin story - he started taking long walks along the Hudson River as therapy and became intrigued by the river driftwood. From there he starting making sculptures, which progressed into custom furniture. If you've ever obsessed over Hudson River driftwood (as we have), you can relate.
Fallen Industry aims to see "new purpose and beauty in what would otherwise have been discarded or destroyed," which is our philospy as well.
Brooklyn, New York
Formerly Withers & Grain, Withers Studio designs and builds tables, mirrors, shelving and seating.
Withers Studio started off specializing in reclaimed wood. They now make a variety of hardwood furniture and have worked with a number of hotels and restaurants.
As far as live edge goes, they make large live edge tables.
They've worked with a long list of top design firms and Interior designers.
Brooklyn, New York
RE-CO is a cool company that is both a mill and a furniture manufacturer. The owners could not find sustainably sourced wood, so they had to create their own mill to get it.
RE-CO uses fallen trees and also trees that have been removed because of illness or due to development.
RE-CO uses fallen trees and also trees that have been removed because of illness or due to development.
RE-CO primarily focuses on live edge tables, but they also do countertops, built-ins and shelving.
They also do commercial and custom projects.
Yonkers, New York
NYCitySlab is also both a mill and a maker of live edge furniture. NYCitySlab sources all of their own wood from old buildings that are about to be demolished or from trees that have been cut by arborists from some 30 tree companies. They stock more than 25 species of wood.
NYCitySlab specializes in long and large slabs of wood. They also manufacture their own metal table legs and create custom metal bases and legs.
NYCitySlab's custom furniture includes everything from live edge tables to shelving, countertops, coffee tables and commercial projects.
